Innovation meets salon quality!

What do you do when your hair begins to resemble hay? Whilst my hair did not feel like hay, it did appear dull and dry. I hate to admit it but natural hair has its cons! Your hair can be in the best condition and still look lacklustre, especially if it is light. Although I adored my dark honey blonde hair, I knew it was time to go darker. An emphasis on “salon quality” can be found on most home hair colour box dyes. It is the ultimate marketing ploy. However, John Frieda might be on to something with their Precision Foam Colour line. Most home hair colour box dyes are liquids or creams. I have no issue with such formulas but I appreciate and welcome innovation. I purchased a box of John Frieda’s Precision Foam Colour in colour 5B Medium Chocolate Brown, from Superdrug. It is usually £9.99 but I managed to grab it whilst it was on sale for £4.99.

John Frieda’s Precision Foam Colour is easy to prepare and apply. The box includes a colourant, a developer, a conditioner and gloves. The quality of each item is unparalleled, superior to competitor brands’. The gloves are black latex, a refreshing change from the usual common flimsy plastic variety; I have since reused them. To my surprise, the application process required little effort. The scent of the dye is unpleasant like most but it is bearable. Thanks to the foam formula, I also found I had so much colour to work with. My curls sit above my breast when stretched out. I was expecting to just about cover all of my hair. Unanticipated, I managed to cover every single strand and still have approximately 20% of the dye left. Unbelievable!

Washing the dye out was a relatively mess free process; it did not stain my cream bath. Unfortunately, my hair did feel a little stripped. I usually use John Frieda’s products to shampoo and condition my hair so the Precision Foam Colour conditioner did not stand out or wow me. It is good but it is no better than any John Frieda conditioner I have used in the past. After using the conditioner, I still felt I had to deep condition my hair. Nonetheless, the coverage of John Frieda’s Precision Foam Colour is great! My hair looked as brown as the box depicted. In fact, I felt it looked a little bit more vibrant. John Frieda’s Precision Foam Colour did not disturb or alter my curl pattern. It is definitely the best home hair colour box dye I have used so far. Would I recommend it? Yes, but I would also recommend deep conditioning after use!
