On the 4th of December 2014, I made the decision to go natural, cutting off all of my armpit length relaxed hair. I was so fed up of maintaining a foreign hair texture and craved something new, something I was naturally blessed with. To go from straight relaxed hair to 4A curls is a pretty drastic change but I’m loving it, with no regrets!
Although my hair is now just above shoulder length, I miss and desire longer locks. Now natural, it would make sense to invest in the ever so popular, Kinky Straight weave that resembles my hair texture when straightened. However, I decided to be frugal and get creative using what I already have at hand! So, here is my tutorial for transforming your weave texture, from silky to Kinky Straight!
What you will need:
- Patience
- The hair of your choice (please note, this is only guaranteed to work on 100% virgin human hair, I used a 14 inch Brazilian virgin human hair U Part)
- The ability to braid fast or simply braid
- A Hair Perming Kit (I used two boxes of an alkaline perm by Zotos)
- Shampoo (I used Aussie Miracle Moist)
- Conditioner (I used TRESemmé Remoisturise)
- Begin by finely braiding your hair of choice. The smaller the braids, the better as you don’t want to end up with chunky crimped hair.
- Follow your perming kit’s instructions.
- When you have completed the perming process, wash the hair with shampoo.
- Apply your conditioner, leaving it in for an hour before thoroughly washing it out.
- As soon as the hair begins to feel damp, unravel the braids and leave the hair to dry.
- Style as you desire!
I am yet to style the hair so the images featured only show the hair in its damp state, after removing the braids. I will update this post in the future, uploading more photos. I hope someone finds this tutorial useful and feel free to ask me any questions by commenting below.
