Often hailed a must have by those of the natural hair community, Shea Moisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Leave-In Conditioner is the most overrated product in the world. Words can’t express or even summarise my disappointment. Prior to the purchase and use of this product, I had heard nothing but positive things in regards to the brand, Shea Moisture. I hate writing negative reviews but I feel I need to as I have wasted £11.99 of my hard earned money!
Shea Moisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Leave-In Conditioner is without a doubt, the most useless leave-in conditioner I have ever used. Why? A leave-in conditioner that leaves your hair dry, hard and brittle defies its sole purpose. As well as its inability to moisturise hair, the product’s packaging infuriated me. Who keeps a liquid in a jar? I would love to meet the doughnut behind that idea! The scent of the leave-in conditioner was rather pleasant at first, reminding me of pancake batter but with time, it began to smell like modelling clay, horrible and artificial.
Straight after applying the leave-in conditioner, my hair felt rather soft but as soon as it dried, it became hard. My hair has never felt so bad and looked so lifeless. As I am now the unhappy owner of this big generous jar of liquid, I’m probably going to have to mix it with an oil or cream. I might also contact Amazon and demand a full refund. However, I will not be put off by my first Shea Moisture purchase, I hope to try their other lines in the future. As my hair has a volatile relationship with protein, I’ll be avoiding the Jamaican Black Castor Oil line.
