No make-up collection is complete without a matte lipstick or two, be it in the traditional solid format or liquid. MUA’s Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer is an affordable alternative in a sea of expensive options. The liquid matte lipstick has become the most sought after cosmetic, with every beauty brand jumping on the bandwagon, releasing a range of regurgitated colours. Whilst the colours don’t, the prices tend to vary greatly but many are pretty expensive. Purchased from Superdrug, at £3.00 each, I’m quite impressed with MUA’s Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in the colours, Flair and Panache.

I have to start by commending MUA as their liquid matte lipsticks are available in a great variety of colours, which is refreshing! It also made the task of finding a colour to compliment my dark complexion easier. Richly pigmented, Panache is my favourite colour of the two. It is a deep dusky pink, perfect for dark skin. I prefer to wear it with a dark lip liner (preferably chocolate) but it can also be worn alone. Flair was a little disappointing as I was expecting it to be a little brown but it is a bloody red, a little brighter than it appears in the images. However, it looks good against dark skin but I would most definitely wear it with my lips lined.

The formula is father similar to Colourpop’s liquid matte lipsticks. Delivering where competitors fail, I found this formula doesn’t dry out my lips and it is not tacky. It also dries quite fast and the applicator brush made application effortless. Disputing MUA’s claims, these lip lacquers are not smudge proof or long lasting; in result, I found it was rather easy to remove. I don’t mind, as I don’t wear lipstick regularly or all day. Moving on to the scent. Yes, MUA’s Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer is lightly scented (well, the two I purchased)! It is a little fruity but I only noticed this whilst creating the swatches.

Overall, I’m relatively pleased. It is pretty hard to find colours that compliment dark skin in the UK but MUA’s Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in the colours, Flair and Panache do and both look gorgeous. The formula is also pretty good. It is not as good as Colourpop’s but it is cheaper. If you are looking for affordable liquid matte lipsticks, check out MUA’s Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer range.
